The Villages is a growing and thriving community in the Sumter County area of central Florida. This haven is an hour from downtown Orlando and the international airport. The Villages includes varying types of housing styles including villas, ranch styles, customized, manufactured, cottages and premier homes. Each home has several modern features and state-of-the-art upgrades, but unique to the size of each home. There is new construction currently taking place, as well as well maintained, pre-owned homes.
Popular Town Squares in the Villages
Florida’s The Villages is a self-sustaining community with retail shops, chef inspired restaurants, post offices, banks and numerous activities. The residents are often referred to as “villagers,” and have settled here from throughout the U.S. and abroad. The Villagers enjoy a plethora of convenient amenities all within a golf cart ride away. The main three town squares serve as The Villages’ town centers: Lake Sumter Landing Market Square, Brownwood Paddock Square, and Spanish Springs Town Square.
Lake Sumter Landing Market Square contains varied retail stores, restaurants and gazebos providing a clear view of the Lake and the Square. Live events take place almost every evening, year round. The Spanish Springs Town Square hosts a small hotel, restaurants, retail stores and a popular opera house. The Villages’ residents enjoy dancing nightly, as well as the best in movies at The Rialto. The Brownwood Paddock Square is the Villages’ newest town square and was modeled after a traditional cow-town village. Characterized by the Barnstorm Theater, you’ll find a variety of shops, ranging from the City Fire restaurant to the Villages Golf Cars store.
Each town square has its own characteristics and “local atmosphere” — which adds to the general appeal of the Villages. Your shopping experience will definitely be an interesting one!
The Recreation Department
The Villages Recreation Department designs newsletters to provide the Villagers with a daily, weekly and monthly review of the activities taking place throughout the communities. The Recreation Department offers over 1,000 activities and provides for serious hobbyists through facilities such as a wood workshop and small pottery studio. The residents also enjoy ceramics, painting, quilting and dancing. Health experts lead classes in aerobics, Pilates, yoga, power walking and weight training.
Activities in The Villages
Each of The Villages’ three communities contain three different types of recreational environments. There is the Neighborhood Recreation Center with an Olympic sized pool and several different courts. The Village Recreation Centers have indoor and outdoor sites for social clubs, billiard, fully equipped kitchens, game courts, tennis courts and family pools. Regional Recreation Centers offer up-to-date fitness centers, large housing for special theatrical productions, special events, or meetings.
